Royal Fleet Auxiliary
The RFA is a civilian-manned fleet of 16 ships, owned and operated by the Ministry of Defence. For more information, see RFA website

TYPE OF SHIPS OPERATED: Various types of ships.
VACANCIES FOR OFFICER CADETS: A number of deck and engineer cadetships each year.
VACANCIES FOR RATINGS: We recruiting trainee ratings with no experience for all 4 branches of the RFA. (Deck, Engineering, Communications and Cook/Steward). We also recruit qualified Able Seaman (SG1A's), MM1's and Cooks / Stewards.

ELIGIBILITY: All RFA recruits must be British Citizens and have resided in the UK for 3 out of the last 5 years. Minimum GCSE requirements for Officer Cadets are as follows: 5 GCSE's Grade A-C, must include Maths, English and Physics (or Dual Science) at Grade B or above. For entry to the Foundation Degree course, 150 UCAS points are needed. No minimum GCSE's are required for rating entry, however candidates will be required to sit a written test at their local Armed Forces Careers Office (AFCO).

The recruitment of school-leavers into the Merchant Navy to train as officer cadets is co-ordinated centrally by the Chamber of Shipping. The Merchant Navy Training Board
Since its inception in 1937, the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) has existed as the shipping industry's body for developing and promoting the training and qualification of seafarers.
