The Merchant Navy Association Boat Club (MNABC)

The inaugural meeting of this new adventure for the MNA took place on 8th July 2008 at Rye Sailing Club.

The MNABC was established in response to the interests expressed by members of the MNA. Membership to the MNABC is FREE to all fully paid MNA National members both Full and Associate. Membership is growing fast and the interest is far and wide. Members have many different experiences and are from different seafaring backgrounds but all have a continuing need to go “messing about” on the water. It is already clear that some members own their own boats and some do not but all maintain a wide interest in sailing, cruising, motor boats, fishing boats, boat building, pilotage, chartering, engineering and writing…perhaps the key word is there is “maintain”.

Those wishing to join the club, whether existing members of other clubs or not, need to complete and return the application form using the link at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, contact the MNA Membership Secretary at mna.memsec@yahoo.co.uk or contact the MNA’s National Secretary on 01472 851130.

Only members of the club will be entitled to fly the new MNA Boat Club pennant from their boats. We are also seeking to have a defaced Red Ensign granted to our new club. If we are successful it will be one of only three defaced Red Ensigns that exist and will be very special.

The aims of the MNABC are to promote good boating practice amongst members and provide a forum for a wide exchange of ideas. The Boat Club will also seek to arrange and co-ordinate activities associated with boats as the membership expands. This will be promoted on a regular basis through the “Full Ahead” magazine. A Newsletter will allow for further exchanges of interests and ideas. An AGM will take place every year and this may be accompanied by a Dinner Dance.

Full membership is only available to those 18 years and older but the Club intends to be involved in promoting good practice and training to those under 18 years of age and in particular those taking their first interest in having fun on the water.

The inaugural meeting elected a committee to manage the affairs of the Club as follows:

Commodore C M H Marsh
Vice Commodore J Merrick
Rear Commodore J Booth
Secretary B Marsh

NB The Club will not be handling any fixed funding or accounts and there is therefore no need for a Club Treasurer.
