This page contains information on the Commemorative Medals & Service Medals

The main difference between the two types, are that the Service medals are officially awarded by the Government and are issued to anyone entitled, free of charge.

Commemorative medals are those produced by other "Non Official" organisations such as Veterans groups and Charities to commemorate services and campaigns etc. These medals are available to those who served and also to Next of Kin of those who have served.

Campaign Medals for WWII and post war are issued to Merchant Seafarers or close family members if deceased, upon receipt of proof of sea service in specific theatres of war.

COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS:

Merchant Naval Service Medal

The ‘Merchant Naval Service Medal’ is available to all former and presently serving merchant service personnel as well as next of kin in this long-standing profession. Although there is a minimum two years service requirement the merit of each application will be considered on an individual basis.
Applications from D.E.M.S. Gunners will be eligible for this commemorative medal.

Normandy Campaign Medal

Commissioned by the Normandy Veterans Association the commemorative medal is a tribute to those who took part in the famous Normandy Campaign of World War II and is available exclusively to veterans of the Normandy Campaign between 6th June and 20th August 1944, or their next of kin.




Malta George Cross Fiftieth Anniversary
Commemorative Medal

The Government of Malta dignified the fiftieth anniversary of the presentation of the George Cross to the island in 1942 by striking the ‘Malta George Cross Fiftieth Anniversary Commemorative Medal’. The closing date for application was 15th April 1994. However the Government of Malta has appointed Award Productions Ltd, medallists for the original issue, to strike the only official replica of this medal.Next of kin can also apply for the medal which will only be issued on receipt of a completed application form and proof of service in Malta between the dates of 10th June 1940 and 8th September 1943.


Restoration Of Peace Medal

To mark the final settlement of peace in Europe and the Pacific and Far East this very special commemorative medal has been struck to acknowledge a truly allied effort which made these victories possible.

Available to all those who served between 1939 and 1945 in the fighting forces or essential war-effort workers throughout the Allied countries.
Next of kin can also apply.


Suez Canal Zone Medal

This commemorative medal marks the service of participants and support personnel in the Suez Canal Zone. Application for the medal is open to all veterans who served in the Canal Zone from 1945 until 1957 or their next of kin.

 

 

Allied Ex-Prisoner Of War Medal

A commemorative medal proposed by the National Ex-Prisoners of War Association in the UK for all Ex-Prisoners of War, or their next of kin, whose countries were allies of Britain at the time of their capture irrespective of whether the United Kingdom itself was involved in the conflict or not.

 

 

Arctic Campaign Medal

To be eligible for this commemorative medal applicants will have been veterans of the Arctic Campaign 1939 to 1945 or their next of kin.
Proposed by the Russian Convoy Club in conjunction with the North Russia Club the medal is a tribute to the three armed services and the Merchant Navy whose vessels were the object of the enemy's attention and formed the life line to Russia.

 

 

Hong Kong Service Medal

Available to all former civil and military personnel who served for a minimum period of six months in The Crown Colony of Hong Kong, in addition eligibility is extended to include next of kin.

The medal features a symbolic Bird of Paradise delicately modelled with all its fine detail frosted on a mirror polished background. Surrounding the design are the words Hong Kong Service Medal with the dates 1841 - 1997 denoting the period Hong Kong was 'The Crown Colony of Hong Kong'

The Golden Jubilee Medal

This magnificent commemorative medal has been produced by the Bigbury Mint for all those men and women who have served their country during the fifty year reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

This should not be confused with the Official medal which will be issued by the Queen.

There is no qualifying length of service, nor do you have to be currently serving.

Vietnam Veterans

This medal is a tribute to those who served in Vietnam between 1960 and 1972 and their next of kin. The ribbon comprises dark and light green borders representing the Green of Vietnam while the yellow and red colours of the Republic of Vietnam are centralised between the green borders.

 

 

Hors de Combat

The outstanding bravery of British servicemen and women who have sustained wounds or injury in the line of duty is now recognised with the striking of the 'Hors de Combat' commemorative medal.

The medal is a befitting way to recognise and pay tribute to the sacrifices and suffering incurred by service personnel throughout the world in the service of their country.

The 'Hors de Combat' medal is also available posthumously to next of kin of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. This medal which will be distinguished by an exclusively designed Poppy on the ribbon for posthumous recognition can be cherished and kept as a fitting tribute to the loss of a loved one who sacrificed their life for their country.
