On Wednesday 28 January, the MNA’s National Secretary, Ken Usher had the greatest pleasure to attend the Midlands Branch meeting held at the Tyseley Working Men’s Club in Birmingham to present the last of the eight awards purchased in line with the National Council decisions of January and April 2025 which instructed him to source and purchase suitable awards to be presented to those who had given exceptional service to the MNA and its membership.

The recipient of the award Mrs Sandra Broom, was the Associations long serving operator of the Shop/Slop chest a role that Sandra carried out effectively and efficiently without complaint for 8 years as a member of the National Council and together with her Husband Peter Broom (former RFA Catering) often took the shop on tour to various meetings and events around the UK, ensuring the MNA and its goods for sale were promoted at every opportunity.

Whilst presenting the award, Ken Usher reminded members present of the adage “that behind every successful man, there’s an even stronger woman” however, he felt that should be amended to “behind every successful organisation there is an extremely hard-working woman” which has certainly been the case with Sandra. Her dedication, commitment, and work ethic over the years to the MNA at National level and the wider membership is greatly appreciated. The Midlands Branch members endorsed Ken’s remarks with a rapturous round of applause in appreciation of Mrs Sandra Broom.  Many congratulations Sandra!
